Moonless Night

Moonless Night

 by   Michael Dennis Bolton, November 28, 2021

I move upon the twilight path;

The starlight filtered through the trees

My heart is still, no joy or wrath

Among the trunks and scrub I see

The shadows cast from every sun

in all directions near and far

each joining each, becoming one

the paltry light from each cold star

The sacred night is made from this

Darkness blurs all vision’s sight

Mortal eye with detail missed

Births sweet imaginings in the night.

And so I walk with primal things

in shadows passed upon my way

Eldritch wights and fairy kings

‘Till shadows flee with break of day.
